The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme at Portadown College is an exciting and challenging way to meet new people, develop new skills and make memories that will last a lifetime.  The Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award is open to students from Year 13.

Throughout year 13 and Year 14, participants work to complete the skills, volunteering, physical, residential and expedition sections.

The four sections to be organised and completed by students in their own time include:

  • Skills
  • Physical
  • Volunteering
  • Residential

The expedition section is completed through school. This section requires students to undergo training in the classroom and in the Mourne Mountains.  Students develop map reading, navigation, team work and camp craft skills to prepare them for a challenging 4 day, 3 night expedition to Wicklow at the end of June.
