I am delighted to report that Portadown College has once again recorded a very strong set of ‘A’ Level results. It is pleasing to note an overall pass rate of 100% at A* - E. More detailed analysis reveals a terrific performance at the top end with a truly impressive 11.3% of all grades recorded with the new A* grade. The cumulative percentages show 44.5% at A*/A and 73.7% A*-C. These excellent results bear testament to the high calibre of students and staff at the College. I have been impressed by the aptitude, diligence and motivation of our students and it is most gratifying to see these well deserved results. I would also like to put on record my appreciation for the commitment, talent and industry of our teaching staff who have provided appropriate support, encouragement and guidance throughout. I would also acknowledge the contribution made by parents and guardians in their support for the work carried out by the College. Despite recent reports of difficulties in acquiring university places, I am confident that the results achieved here will be a great advantage to our students. Indeed, judging by the sea of happy smiling faces in the College this morning, this certainly seems to be the case. The Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr Peter Aiken, expressed delight in the results achieved, noting that these were secured despite difficulties with the fabric of the school and the urgent need for a new build. It is always difficult to draw a line in acknowledging high performances, but the following students achieved 3 or more A or A* grades: Daniel Clarke | Rachel Johnston | Rachel Calvin | Graeme McCullough | William Millsopp | Christopher Goodland | Lesley Martin | Adam Montgomery | Winnie Poon | Shona Troughton | Shona Lester | Beth Pillow | Stephen Hyde | Leah McVeigh | Emma Kenny | Katharine Holland | Rebecca Irwin | Sarah Lavery | Danielle Lockhart | Joanne McNeill | Christopher Wright | Marc Beggs | Anita Boyd | Lauren Harris | Brent McCartney | Louise Richardson | Stephen Strain | Kathryn Vaughan | Laura Willis | Emma Baxter | Rachel Brown | Christopher Buchanan | Julie Cardwell | Alexandra Coulter | Rachel Cranston | Hannah Farrell | John Graham | Kathryn Greenaway | Hannah Kernaghan | John McClelland | Chloe McMurray | Zoe Morton | Emma Robinson | Harry Robinson | Grace Wilson | Claire Woolsey | | |
A further 33 students achieved two A*/A grades in addition to other subject passes. A number of individuals deserve particular attention for their outstanding performance: Rachel Calvin 4A* Daniel Clarke 4A* Rachel Johnston 4A* Christopher Goodland 2A*, 2A Graeme McCullough 2A*, 2A William Millsopp 2A*, 2A Shona Troughton 2A*, 2A Lesley Martin 1A*, 3A Adam Montgomery 1A*, 3A Stephen Hyde 3A* Emma Kenny 3A* On behalf of the Governors and staff of Portadown College I wish the class of 2010 continued success in the future and I look forward to hearing of their achievements in the years to come.
