Portadown
College
students Stephen Hyde and Daniel Clarke are pictured with their respective Chemistry teachers, Mr David Spence and Miss Judith Sinton, and the College’s new Principal, Mr Simon Harper. Both Year 14 students were recently successful in the prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry International Olympiad: Stephen was presented with a gold award and Daniel successfully achieved a bronze award.
It is particularly appropriate that both students were presented with their awards so soon after Mr Harper’s arrival at the school as the new Principal began his career teaching Chemistry. He was Head of the Chemistry Department at Regent House in Newtownards for several years and retains his professional interest in the subject as a Senior Examiner at ‘A’ level.
These accomplishments complete a very successful year for the scientists of PortadownCollege as the Biology and Physics Departments have recently been awarded similar accolades at their Olympiads.
