The Biologists at PortadownCollege are, once again, feeling very proud of themselves as they have been awarded top school in Northern Ireland in the British Biology Olympiad. The fact that they were also awarded the title of top school last year makes the achievement even more remarkable and means that they have established a track record of outstanding success against other schools in the province.
The British Biology Olympiad is run by the Institute of Biology, the professional body for the study of the science. In 2010 nearly 2,000 students entered this demanding competition across the U.K. The PortadownCollege students achieved the greatest number of special prizes in Northern Ireland and, subsequently, retained the coveted title of ‘BestSchool’.
Prizes awarded at the Olympiad were as follows:
Gold – Rachel Calvin
Silver – Stephen Hyde
Bronze – Daniel Clarke and Christopher Goodland
Highly Commended – Sarah Lavery and Adam Montgomery
Commended – William McLean and Chloe McMurray
